Today at 2PM CDT Samsung will be announcing the follow-up to the Samsung Galaxy S2. At that time we’ll update this page with all information, but until then here is everything we know.

There’s no doubt that the original Samsung Galaxy S2 was a game changer for Samsung, Android OS, and in the rivalary of Apple vs. Samsung causing litigation around the world between the companies.

Display

The resolution of the screen is expected of 720p or WXGA 1280×720 pixels. This is quite a bump up from the 800×480 resolution of the Galaxy S2. No doubt it will feature the latest in Samsung’s SuperAMOLED Plus technology for an incredibly contrast ratio. Samsung is behind some of the world’s best display technology, so it’d be shocking if it was anything less than stellar.

Many screen sizes have been thrown out, but 4.8″ is likely the winner, although it could be 4.7″ as well. Again, depending on the carrier this could also shift as we saw Sprint release a larger screen than those from other networks in the U.S.

CPU

If you kept up with the previous Samsung Galaxy S2 you know there were huge variants and changes not only between countries, but also between networks. This seems it will stay the same for the Galaxy S3. The international version of the phone is likely to have Samsung’s latest Exynos 1.4GHz quad core system on a chip (SoC) processor.

The U.S. edition is currently expected to use Qualcomm’s dual core Snapdragon S4 processor for any LTE versions of the phone. Will this come back to haunt Samsung as other competitor phones move to quad core processors? Only time will tell, but an interesting choice with undoubtedly positives and negatives.

Paint it Blue & White

Colors and early launch photos seem to indicate that the phone will launch not in Samsung’s typical black but a very dark blue and in white. Black is almost boring and dull at this point so anything to shape up the design and have the phone stand out could be pivotal. Does anyone really want their phone looking exactly the same as another?

OS

It’s no surprise that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will use the latest version of Google’s Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwhich. More specifically it should be version 4.04.

A new version of Samsung’s TouchWiz should come along with this which runs over the Google OS. This should have new improvements as well, but those are some of the details which still have yet to leak.

Memory

1GB of RAM is what the Samsung Galaxy S2 came with and the S3 appears to follow suit. 16GB of more of onboard storage will also

Earlier reports of 2GB of RAM which announced, but the latest have those scaled back. We’ll see what happens later today.

Camera

The 8MP camera should see an upgrade to 12MP on the back, and the front facing camera should be upgraded to 2MP.

With the release of HTC’s One X the competition and heat is definitely back on in the Android arena, and the Galaxy S2 is not necessarily the undisputed champion anymore.
